A 32-year-old man from Anoka County, Minnesota has been charged with animal abuse. According to KstpNews, Eric David Elwell is alleged to have hosed the dog in cold water and then threw the dog outside in the cold for 20 minutes as a punishment for urinating in the house.
According to the criminal complaint, the owner of the home who lived in Florida from December 2015 to March 2016, had allowed Elwell to live in her home in the basement in exchange for taking care of the house and dogs. During that time, Elwell sold more than $2,000 of the woman’s belongings. A witness states seeing Elwell abuse the family Dachshund named Trick; claiming Elwell had been high on meth when he hit the dog over the head several times, doused the pet in cold water and threw the dog outside in the cold weather.
Authorities were able to recover $600 worth of the homeowner’s belongings. A warrant for Elwell’s arrest was issued on October 21. He faces charges of theft, third-degree criminal damage to property and animal cruelty.
