In Columbia, South Carolina, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department arrested a man allegedly involved in the disturbing case of setting a puppy on fire in a church parking lot.
According to DolphinSixNews, Hykeem Dontavious Jabar Golson, 21, was arrested on Monday at his residence. Detectives were able to identify the suspect after interviewing witnesses and friends. On Saturday, authorities were called to the parking lot of Grace United Methodist Church on Harbison Boulevard where a witness stated he had been walking his dogs when he heard yelping sounds and saw something on fire. Knowing immediately it was a dog, the witness called 911 and tried to help the puppy as the man ran off.
The puppy, estimated to have been only eight to ten weeks of age was rushed to the veterinary hospital where he was humanely euthanized due to the severity of his injuries. Golson has been charged with felony ill treatment of animals. He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday afternoon.
