An Oregon man is behind bars for allegedly spanking his roommate’s puppy so hard that two bones in the pup’s leg were broken; the leg was damaged badly enough that it had to be amputated. According to Wednesday’s Statesman Journal, the man accused of the act of cruelty is identified as 22-year-old Kyle Anthony Hernandez of Marion County.
Hernandez has stated that he “spanked” the miniature Dachshund puppy, named “Tucker,” on August 27 after the puppy peed inside. Hernandez claims that the over-the-top angry response was fueled by a glass of wine that he had consumed that same morning.
Tucker’s owner was not home with the “spanking” took place – when he arrived home, he noticed that the pup was crying and limping. After taking the puppy to a veterinarian, the extent of Tucker’s injuries from the “spanking” were discovered. According to the puppy’s owner, Hernandez paid the $1200 fee to amputate Tucker’s leg.
Hernandez was jailed at the Marion County Jail on a charge of first-degree animal abuse.
