The Tangi Humane Society continues to ask for volunteers to help by donating supplies, money and offers to foster animals. Just three days ago, the shelter located in Hammond, Louisiana was inundated with more than four feet of water forcing animals and staff to be evacuated.
Fortunately, the St. Tammy Humane Society offered some assistance, however they are currently at capacity, in addition to accommodating the more than 22 dogs taken in from the Tangi Humane Society. Temporary housing has been built in the play and exercise areas. Purrs of Hope Rescue stepped up to house 36 of the cats and will be making sure the kitties are all vetted and ready for adoption.
As building crews have been arriving to help, the latest assessment of the reconstruction project reveals more damage to the shelter than originally estimated. As the waters receded on Sunday, the property owners, Randy Stegall and his wife Lynda, who run the rescue, have lost their entire lifetime dreams. There was no flood insurance. Volunteers have joined together to help rebuild in order to continue rescuing the abandoned, lost and abused animals in the Hammond area.
A list of supplies urgently needed are as follows:
“We are in need of fans, storage bins, shelving and ice at the shelter, as soon as possible. Also in need of snacks/drinks for the volunteers helping us. We would like to thank Raising Canes of Hammond and all the wonderful staff there that donated lunch of all our volunteers today…”
According to Villalobos Rescue Center, volunteers are encouraged to help or donate. The situation has been described as serious and as heartbreaking as the Katrina disaster. A GoFundMe account can be found here.
