It was an urgent call on Wednesday morning to Rescue Dogs Rock NYC for help from one of the Georgia partner rural shelters that had just been informed of a young dog struck by a vehicle and left lying on the side of the road. When Animal Control brought her to the shelter, the dog didn’t move; she appeared to be in shock with a possible fractured jaw. As the shelter was not able to provide her with the care she would need, co-founder of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, Stacey Silverstein stepped up to help and arranged for the immediate transfer to an emergency veterinary hospital.
“We do not know the extent of her injuries but we know they are life threatening,” was Stacey’s initial report. “We have named this precious life Angel because we are praying that angels are looking down at her at this very moment and giving her the strength to hang on.”
For the last 24-hours, Angel barely moved and has been diagnosed as having suffered a severe head trauma after she had been hit by a car, thrown to the side of the road immobilized and been unable to help herself. Veterinarians say it truly is a miracle Angel survived.
“She hasn’t moved much and continues to sleep and rest,” stated Stacey on Friday morning’s update to followers on Facebook. “She’s on very heavy doses of pain medication and on intravenous receiving the fluids she needs. Our medical team says she ate a little as well and sat up briefly. We are in a holding pattern now and waiting to see the neurological damage sustained and whether her jaw is broken.”
How tragic to even think the person who hit Angel didn’t have the respect or humanity to stop their vehicle and call 911 to get Angel help instead of abandoning her on the side of the road; leaving her to suffer.
