Update 10/25/16: Scooby has left the shelter – he is currently with a foster family!

A senior dog has been left without a home, or family, after his owner of 13 years died unexpectedly. Today, the heartbroken senior dog lays inside of his kennel run, howling.

On Monday afternoon, the Front Street Animal Shelter, for the city of Sacramento (California), reached out to the public for help in finding the depressed senior dog a new home. The shelter wrote, “Scooby arrived at Front Street after his owner of thirteen years passed away unexpectedly. Every day Scooby has been waiting by the kennel door eager to see if his best friend will return.”

Each time footsteps approach Scooby’s kennel run, he waits expectantly for the face that he so dearly loves – sadly, the face that he is longing to see will never appear.

Scooby’s best hope is to find a new adopter who will shower this sad senior with unconditional love and attention for the rest of his days.

Please share Scooby’s information to help him find that special someone – the person who will help mend his broken heart.

  1. Heartbreaking. This goes to show how much these animals feel when they lose the ones they love. I hope Scooby can find someone to help him get through his grief. I know that many adopters don’t want a 13 year old dog but there has to be someone with a huge heart to give part of it to this wonderful dog.

  2. This is a huge lesson, you must make plans for your beloved pet should you suddenly not be available to care for them. It must be written and planned in advance, you must get approval for the person who will be in charge of your pet’s future so it doesn’t end up in a shelter where it will often be one step from death. Ideally a family member or close friend will take on your wishes as you know what will work best for your pet.
