A single mom and her children were forced to surrender their two beloved dogs and cat at the Carson Animal Care Center. Although every owner surrender is a tragic circumstance for the dogs and cats left behind, this particular story rings out to be even more heartbreaking. 2 dogs and a cat

As described, on the Facebook page of Saving Carson Dogs, Friday was  a particularly difficult day when the hearts of volunteers were shattered into tiny pieces as they shared the pain a family and their pets experienced. The family lost their home and were being forced to live in a small apartment that does not allow pets. It was sudden and traumatic; described by the family as the worst part of losing their home and possessions had been parting with their pets.

#A4017848 My name is BELLA and I’m an approximately 7 year old female German Shepherd. I am already spayed. I have been at the Carson Animal Care Center since 7/22. I will be available on 7/22. You can visit me at my temporary home at C134. A Facebook page for Bella can be followed here.

“BELLA is amazing, she loves everyone especially her sister PRINCESS and her CAT SISTER SHANAY. PRINCESS also has this amazing personality and this family just belongs together,” stated a volunteer who has interacted with the dog Bella A4017848

  1. I pray for a day when people are allowed to keep their pets in apartments. Landlords are so worried about damage, not the damage can occur because it does occur, but each situation is unique and many times the innocent are made to pay the price of people who’ve been destructive in the past. I would also venture to say that adults and kids are far more destructive than pets can ever be. This denial for people to have pets in apartments is inherently wrong. Every day I find it profounfly distasteful to consider myself a human being amongst others who know nothing about being human.

    • I so agree with you, My daughter’s landlord once told her he would rather rent to someone with pet as his experience had been that kids did more damage. I hope these poor pets find loving homes, and I hope the poor family that had to give them up finds peace in their decision.

      • It’s such a crime. Laws are made so landlords can’t discriminate against so-called human beings. But I’ve seen the damage that people have done with friends that have owned property. People are far more destructive. If the animals are bad it’s usually because of the people; the people live in squalor so they don’t care about the pets. I think there needs to be an exception clause. I mean seriously, an indoor cat is fine, a small dog is fine even a large dog is fine if there’s a responsible owner.

    • It’s going to happen, especially in CA. I recently started a real estate investment firm and we are quickly in the process of buying as many multi-family properties as possible. Every building will be pet friendly and with no weight and breed restrictions. While we do need to protect ourselves from potential damage, we plan to keep the deposits low ($500 or less) and never charge pet rent. We will also be giving people the ability to pay that refundable deposit over the course of a certain time frame. No one should be forced to give up their pets. Ever.

      • What a wonderful idea & great gesture!!! Some people are 2-legged childless & only have pets. I live in a senior complex and everybody has pets here. I specifically live here because I don’t want to live near children. Children are destructive and too noisy. People are responsible; they pick up after their pets. We do have stray cats but they are, for the most part, just a nuisance because of their toileting and occasional fights. However, they are no where near as destructive and noisy as unsupervised kids.

  2. This is so wrong!!! The children in particular will be traumatized in an already difficult situation. I too lost my home when I was bullied out of a job and took a job that paid so much less. I refused to give up my pets and turned to family and friends to help me find a place. It is possible to help people in this situation and I encourage anyone near there to step up to the plate to secure a place that will allow this traumatized family to keep their fur babies.

  3. Has anyone talked to the landlord about accepting an additional deposit that would allow the pets to stay, at least temporarily until all 3 pets can be fostered or possibly getting enough money together so they can find a pet- friendly apartment? I’d be will to set up the page and send some money. This is so sad.

  4. Maybe if we make them. Fund to donate money for them all to get a place where Princess Precious and Bella and Their Mom and siblings could all be together and let them know there is people who really do care ..

  5. If the family was as distraught as you claim, they should have found a better solution than turning them over to this high kill facility with one of the worse reputations in the country. I find it hard to feel sorry for the family. They could have reached out for help, or taken a less desirable place. More and more places are allowing pets, but you have to put some effort into it. My sympathy goes to the senior pets, not the irresponsible woman who so callously left them in a place where their lives can be snuffed out on a whim. I’m sure the kids were traumatized but feel the mother could have done better and just took the easy way out. I’ve a feeling there is much more to this story, and it isn’t pretty. What a pitiful example she is setting.

    • Judy you are the callous one. YOU have no idea what this woman did to keep her pets. YOU have no idea what their situation was. YOU have no idea how long, if at all she had to find a place to house her children. STFU

    • Judy Redditt we have 1 elderly cat and 2 9 year old beagle/chihauau’s one 28# and the other 34#… They are beloved members of the pack, but god forbid we lose our place now. Have looked around and it’s extremely hard to find apartments or other rentals that will allow pets, let alone multiples. Most allow only cats or 1 dog the size of a toy, and they were few and far between. I don’t know what part of the country you live in…Chicagoland area here.

You have no clue on their timeframe, available resources, any health issues the adult may have or other particulars of their situation. The article states they lost their home & possessions. This could have happened for several different reasons. Being judgmental without knowing all the details is not a pretty thing and it’s definitely
      not helpful.

    • I think you are assuming a lot about this family and assuming you’re right. Don’t be so quick to judge others
      without having all the facts.

  6. We need fosters for cases like this – someone who can care for the animals until the family can get back on their feet and take them back. I helped with a dog who belonged to a disabled couple. They lost their home and had to temporarily move in with a relative, who refused to let them bring the dog. Luckily, I was able to keep the dog for them until they were in a situation to take him back. We even covered shots and got him groomed, so Sammie was ready to go back home. I wish every pet in a situation like this \would have that option. Prayers for these furbabies and their human family.

    • Agnes, In Los Angeles, the cost of living is very high & pet-friendly apartments are even more expensive. The family had to move on short notice. It looks like something is being worked out, but please don’t judge this family. It was heartbreaking enough to have to loose their house & their possessions, and even harder to loose their pets. Hopefully, they’ll all be reunited soon.

  7. I was so sorry to here about family giving there pets away to sheltor. High kill shelter. I know how she would be. It’s a hard decision to make, but I’m
Glued to my pets, I couldn’t give them up.I’d have to find some some other way, I’d continue to look for away to keep them, not only. Would I feel like my family is gone, ,and how are the pets taking it. They have so much love, they must feel a band. I know how she wold feel, but I had 3 chores and I found a place nt the best condition, but we remained a family. GOD BLESS hope you get pets back somehow.

  8. I would never give up my animals no matter what, I would live in my car until I found a place for all of them. No excuses
