In a disturbing case of animal cruelty and torture in Baltimore, Maryland, a Great Dane, named Sampson, was too weak to even lift his head after having been intentionally starved. Currently Sampson continues to fight for his life after having been rescued almost one week ago, he still remains on a 24-hour intravenous fluid feed for hydration, nutrition and pain relief.
When Rescue Dogs Rock NYC were called by BARCS Animal Shelter for help, Sampson was rushed to the organization’s partner veterinarian in New York City. Co-founder Jackie O’Sullivan’s heart was shattered when she saw the Great Dane’s condition:
“We’ve had Sampson at a 24/7 ER vet since the end of last week, but we are only now allowed to share his story and that is the good news. He will not go unnoticed with no justice like every other ‘stray.’ Sampson had an owner, and he was seized from his “home” as part of a cruelty case! And best of all, his ‘owner’ was charged today.”
Sampson is weak, emaciated, dehydrated, anemic and suffers from open, infected wounds – mostly on his front legs. What happened to this dog didn’t just happen overnight. What happened to this dog is tragic. Too weak to stand or to walk, no animal deserves to be tortured and mistreated. This time Sampson will get justice; his owners have been charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty. Be the voice for those who cannot speak. Report all suspicions of animal cruelty and neglect.
Sampson is a fighter, and although his prognosis was very poor earlier this week, he is slated to be a survivor. Follow his recovery on the organization’s Facebook page.
