No one had come forward to save Bell; a two-year-old emaciated but extremely sweet dog lying all alone and frightened in a South Florida high kill animal shelter. And then on Friday, Underdog Rescue of Florida stepped up, knowing at noon Bell was slated to be euthanized. 
Bell was so weak she had to be carried to the car by shelter employees. An initial evaluation of Bell posted on the organization’s Facebook page to their followers indicate Bell has a tough uphill battle:
“Her liver values are way off which is typical of starvation. She is leaking fluids throughout her body. Despite her condition, her tail never stops wagging. She has scars all over her body that appear to be bite wounds, so we suspect maybe being used as a bait dog, but really have no idea. You can see some of the scars on her face. Our vet said she is very sweet, and we are all praying for her to survive. The shelter had given Bell until noon today, and they were going to euthanize her due to her condition. We rescued her at 11:45 a.m. No other rescue had come forward for her, and her face just told such an awful life story. She deserved so much better as all the other dogs do who never get that chance…”
For now Underdog Rescue of Florida is hoping to find a foster home for Bell to rest and recuperate. Her first night at the veterinarian hospital she did eat – giving volunteers and advocates hope that this forgiving, innocent dog who wags her tail happily at human kindness will survive.
