Elsa was surrendered to the San Bernardino City Animal Control on Thursday. Her family turned her in because they were leaving for vacation, and according to a regular volunteer at the shelter, just didn’t understand an overcrowded, high kill shelter is not a “doggy care” facility. Elsa the GS

“Poor Elsa. She was described by a visitor who contacted me this morning, as ‘so sweet, loves children, but so very sad,'” addressed Lois Chisholm on her Facebook page to advocates, as she shared the story for a dog desperately in need of a home.

There are no required hold periods for surrendered pets, and even if they are the kindest, prettiest or best behaved dogs at the shelter, space and overcrowded conditions dictate which dogs live or die. Click here for Elsa’s Pet Harbor listing.  Elsa ID#A496170. Elsa the GS 2 “My name is Elsa and I am an unaltered female, tan German Shepherd Dog mix. I have been at the shelter since Jul 28, 2016.” For more information about the adoption process, click here: Animal Control. Note that the last adoption will start at 4:30 pm.

People who have visited Elsa already sing her praises:

Michelle ***** She is incredibly sweet. My daughter fell in love with her.”

“Tatiana **** Such a lovely girl! She LOVED my 9 yo son.”Elsa the GS 3

Make sure to follow Elsa’s Facebook page as advocates share her story with approved rescue organizations, friends, family and social media contacts. Could any dog be prettier or sweeter? It is suggested any interested person come out to the shelter and meet Elsa – will she fit into your family and become a life long friend?

  1. I hope Elsa’s family never makes it home. Honestly. ‘People’ that cold, selfish, and foul have no business polluting this planet by walking around on top of it.

Someone please bring this wonderful dog home. It’s clear she belongs with someone who will truly love and appreciate her and, in return, she will give them a lifetime of love and devotion.

    • You don’t dump a pet cause you are going on vacation. Some vets will board pets for a daily fee or find a friend or kennel to take care of the dog. Shame on them. They will get a surprise when they find the dog is dead when they get back or that someone else adopted it. So selfish.

  2. These disgusting people better never be allowed to have another pet!. I hope they have a horrible vacation! How anyone could enjoy themselves after doing something like this I cannot fathom!

  3. put the dog up for adoptes.the family can not ever have anymore animals has long they life also.the dog is a 4 legged kid of they.but the family donot care about they 4 legged kid wearing fur at all.so put dog up for adoptes and when they get back .charge them with mistreat a dog and abonded they 4 leggged kid wearing fur.because animals are family members always.make them pay until the dog has a new and safe place to live.

  4. I haven’t been away from my furbabies for more than four days in over a decade. Vacation? I have more fun with them and at most I take weekend mini-trips with one of my daughters, but only if other family members are home to care for the pack. They need to put a DNA on the idiots who dumped this sweet dog. Sharing with prayers.

    • Or, they could board the dog, or hire a dog sitter…….having pets doesn’t mean your whole life has to come to a complete halt because of it!

I agree however this family should be listed on a do not adopt list if there is one in that area.

    • It is illegal for shelters to release names of people who surrender pets to a shelter, or those who adopt them, for obvious reasons.

      • Too bad! For every inhuman bastard there needs to be at least one caring, compassionate one who rescues the dogs and cats throw away like trash. Thank God for these latter.

  5. I think we should dump the owners at the shelter for a week. People are just stupid, and heartless. She’s 15 years old.. There has to be more to this story. Shame on them, shame

  6. THIS happens in Shelters all over the U.S. every summer……seems like a program to EDUCATE those who really don’t know any better (who don’t realize it is most likely a death sentence for the dog/ cat) would be a good thing.

  7. ♣️I believe in karma. Since they are such “good” role models, their children will dump them in a horrible home when they are old and helpless.
