In Hancock, Maryland, a family is trying to deal with the horrible crossbow arrow death of their three-year-old dog who had been shot on Friday morning.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page, the department has opened an animal cruelty investigation. The family, who reside on Orchard Ridge Road, called authorities to report their German shepherd and Beagle mix had been shot with a crossbow arrow. The dog, whose name was Bronx, had been let out of the house at approximately 6:30 a.m. to go to the bathroom. About 20 minutes later, a family member found Bronx standing on the front porch with blood pouring out of his chest. The owners saw the crossbow arrow stuck into their dog’s chest, near his neck. Bronx died before the family could get him to a veterinarian.

Bronx was the best friend of the family’s teenage grandson. According to Fox News, the dog’s owner Jennifer Collier hopes getting the word out will help to find the person responsible for the cruel deed.

“It has been hard and nothing will bring him back, but I would like the person who did this punished for their crime,” stated Jennifer.

It is believed someone shot Bronx while the dog stood on his own porch. Anyone with information is asked to call authorities at 240.313.2170.

  1. I hope they find the cruel POS that did this to poor Bronx, I can’t imagine the horror finding your dog shot like this, your dog should be safe on his own front porch. I highly doubt it is “accidental” some POS hunter just wanted to shoot something, may they rot in hell!

  2. I will guarantee the person who did it was a neighbor who wanted to use Bronx as target practice, either for hunting or because he hates dogs. I hope they find the piece of excrement and use THEM as target practice.

  3. The IMPORTANT ISSUE here is DID their dog go running FREE around the neighborhood to PEE and POOP in other PEOPLES YARDS!!!!! I would never ! Never!! shoot a dog for even doing this BUT there are some pretty NASTY PEOPLE out there that will not tolerate animals defecating on their property SO THEY HAVE TO CLEAN IT UP!!! If this is the case the owners of this Poor Dog caused the death themselves….. even though it IS NOT RIGHT!!!!!

    • May be what you say is true, but there is evidence the poor dog was shot on his front porch. Since I have no way of knowing whether this dog had a fenced in yard or was allowed to roam the neighborhood, I will reserve judgment as to the owner’s fault in this. If a neighbor has a problem with your dog and they can come to your house to kill the dog on it’s front porch, they could have rung the door bell and stated their problem. There are other ways of reporting a nuisance dog, killing it with a crossbow shouldn’t be one of them.

      • As I stated in the above text !!! I MOST Certainly am NOT in agreement of shooting the dog!!! AT NO time other than if the dog was attacking one of my own dogs on My own property!!! or coming into my own field which is fenced for my horses!!! We have a neighbor that has over a million dollar home and garage the size of a Walmart 10,500 square feet and these people have had not one but two dogs shot and killed because they refuse to but a fence up for the dog to be contained… How very sad !!! I walked over several times and informed them that I was afraid the dog would get hurt by the horses and they looked at me like What the hell is your problem… No I did not shoot either of their dogs someone else in the subdivision did… what a horrible thing for their 2 young daughters !!! I was just trying to say that there may be a reason, justifiable or not , that this happened… the dog is also the victim, because they do NOT KNOW better , than to check out the area if NOT either being watched by their owner to make sure the dog stays in their own yard, or a fence… How many times these past years Have I seen you Rip someone apart that your are now Chastising me for questioning ????

      • I am not chastising you for questioning this. I know sometime dogs get killed by people and some of the owners are partially to blame for letting them run loose and not taking responsibility for the actions of their pet. I don’t know if he had a fenced in yard and feel someone came on their property and needlessly shot the dog on his own porch. If it turns out that these people were letting the dog run wild and be a nuisance then yes they are irresponsible and the dogs death is partially on them! I, however stand by my statement that I will reserve judgement with these owners since the dog was shot on his own porch. My dogs go out at 6:30 am to go potty and it is dark outside, mine are contained but I do not go out with them and anyone could come on my property and kill them. Am I a bad owner? Now if you want to talk about the poor dog that was shot by a deputy while tethered, then I will be the first one to blame the owners. you don’t keep your dog tethered in the yard 24/7!

      • Thank you for the clarification ! Our yard is fenced with 4 foot chain link and we have a dog door opened at 6;30 am and closed at dark… They are free to come in and out as they please! Our kennel run is 50 foot X 60 foot and has 6 foot high chain link for safety… covered porch and 5 igloo dog houses for shade and shelter when they are out of their runs… we have 10 fenced acres!!! and we are now putting in a solar paneled operated gate that will remained closed unless our renter or us open it…. I have taken in strays or escapees and spent over three hours chasing down a mom yellow lab and her 2 four month old male pups ( along with our neighbor ) as they had somehow gotten out of their yard 8 acres over…. their mom is a nurse at the VA in town and their dad works at the post office I was unable to get ahold of either of them… I knew they would be shot and killed by the rancher up the hill that is kill happy… the neighbor and I were worn out from the chase… Those pups were a handful and just full of the devil… I would have been overtaken with remorse if we had abandoned our quest to get them safe and they were killed on the highway or shot… The only point I was attempting to make WAS did the family of this unfortunate dog let the dog go for in the dark runs on other’s property or was the asshole that shot the dog just that an asshole that is unstable and undesirable to live themselves!! As a retired person I am home 85% of the time and gone only to shop for groceries and quick jaunts!!! Our dogs are never allowed to run to other’s yards and mark their territory.. Our neighbor to the east of us however lets their little 5 lb mutt run wherever he wants to go … He comes into our field all the time and runs right under our horses feet.. I have walked over up to 6 times and said you know someday one of our horses is going to accidently step on your dog, that will be fatal and I am concerned.. Has that stopped them from letting him run while the owner’s mom who has the dog sits on their porch and smoke ,, Hell no! They are also the people that had 2 young dogs shot and killed for running this area!!! go figure! The woman is a Dr.!! I feel safe and I also have a permit to carry concealed if I so chose, as does my husband!!! I feel our country has come to that within the last 20 years!!

      • AS horrible as it is to take the Life of an Animals Who doesn’t know it should go and use another person’s yard.. it most certainly isn’t ethical , moral, and lots of times not legal to kill and cause a terrific amount of suffering to the poor animal, the owner is more often than not the REAL CAUSE of their PET dying in such a horrific fashion because of their laziness!!!

  4. That is horrible. I pray they find the son of a bitch that did such a cruel thing to an adorable little dog. Wtf is wrong with people. They really need to toughen the laws against people who hurt/kill animals. They need to be punished
