Falkor, a Sharpei and ChowChow mix, had been repeatedly beaten with a baseball bat. On Saturday evening, rescue organizations Second  Chance Dogs NYC and Dallas Dog RRR simultaneously reached out to their supporters asking for help to save the dog after having been contacted by Fort Worth Animal Shelter about the gentle dog’s severe injuries and his heartbreaking condition.

Volunteers and animal lovers quickly responded, and  Falkor was transferred to an emergency veterinary hospital for life saving treatment. The dog’s first examination revealed the following horrendous injuries:

“Falkor has a broken jaw, broken teeth, needs to have the right eye removed, is currently blind in the left (could be from the swelling), frontal lobe of skull is broken, eye socket fractured, swelling of the brain, could have possible brain damage (too early to tell). Is disoriented… swelling must come down.”

Early Monday afternoon, the update provided by the rescue organizations stated Falkor had been protecting a child when he was beaten with the baseball bat. The dog is still listed in serious condition, however much of the swelling has subsided, and doctors are making the decision whether to operate on the dog’s jaw or his eye first within the next 24-hours.

“Please send him all the light and love that is harvested in your own hearts. No living creature should have to ever had endured what happened to poor Falkor who was protecting a child. To be pulverized by a bat over and over again makes us sick and filled with fury. All documentation is diligently being processed and handed over to ACO. My heart physically hurts thinking about every broken bone in his head,” Second Chance Dogs NYC posted on their Facebook page.

An animal cruelty investigation is underway; all photos and follow-up information have been turned  over to authorities. Donations for Falkor’s medical care can be made by clicking here.
