A former Pennsylvania corrections officer convicted of animal cruelty charges in connection with the death of his K-9 partner last summer has been sentenced to two days in jail at the Centre County Correctional Facility. According to the Merced Sun Star, Chad Holland, 40, was found guilty following a bench trial Wednesday in connection with the death of two-year-old yellow Labrador retriever K-9 Officer Totti.

Holland left Totti unattended in a car after training exercises on the morning of July 7th at the Rockview State Prison. When he returned three hours later to his vehicle, with its windows and doors closed, Totti was found unresponsive and died later that day. Temperatures  were reported to have been over 85 degrees.

According to Holland, the training began early in the day. He unloaded narcotic training aids from his vehicle at about noon and left Totti in the vehicle. He stated he had taken a  phone call while unloading his car and had entered a building and did not return for the dog to put him in the kennel. Totti was rushed to an emergency veterinarian, but died after having a seizure.

Besides the two-days in jail, District Judge Kelley Gillette-Walker also fined Holland $300.

Rest in peace Totti.

  1. This sentence is completely unacceptable. His actions resulted in the death of a fellow POLICE OFFICER. Two days is less time than he’d get for any traffic violation requiring jail time.

  2. shameful, this is total disgust! Another one of those bastards getting a slap on wrist, most likely told, DON’T DO THIS AGAIN!!!

  3. Two days and a measly fine. That’s all the poor dog’s life was worth? Wrong! That dog was ALSO a police officer as well as a beautiful animal who relied on the POS to take care of him.

  4. This IS NOTHING but SIMPLE Bureaucratic Bullshit!!!!! the Police Department & the Justice Department have the attitude that A DOG IS JUIST A DOG!!!! IT”S LIFE AND SUFFERING MEAN NOTHING !!! ” I say “F” the State of Pennsylvania and the A$$ HOLES Who took this stance!!!!

  5. Two days in jail and a $300 fine for killing your K-9 partner? District Judge Kelley Gillette-Walker you are a fool, and have not one ounce of compassion for what that poor dog went through. I wish someone would lock you in a hot car and maybe you could see what a joke your sentence is for Chad Holland. You are as bad and as irresponsible as he is!

  6. If someone else did this they would get decades behind bars. But Hey, two whole days jail time. Oh my. Can he handle that?! That should really teach him a lesson. Dishing out some real justice there aren’t you. DISGUSTING!
