On Tuesday night, a woman in Northern Ireland was just minutes from her mother’s house when a violent stranger clamped his hand over her mouth and pulled her into the shadows. According to Friday’s publication of The Mirror Online, the would-be rapist’s efforts to complete his attack were thwarted by the victim’s dog, “Lola.”

The woman told Belfast Live, “I thought I was going to die but all I could think of was my three children.” The man said something chilling in the midst of the attack…the woman stated, “He used his other hand to try and pull down my trousers and then he said, ‘Your dog can watch.'”

Fortunately, Lola, a Staffordshire terrier, was at the ready to take the sexual predator on. The protective dog growled before grabbed the man’s arm and sinking her teeth in, refusing to let go. Lola’s teeth buried in the man’s arm provided the woman with the break she needed to escape and run for help.

The woman is still shaken by the violent encounter – she has no doubt that the man planned to rape her and credits Lola for saving her from the unthinkable. She stated, “Her instinct to protect kicked in and if it wasn’t for her I have no doubt what would have happened, she is our hero.”
