A grizzly discovery of a dead Shih Tzu with a broken neck, leg and teeth by a good Samaritan in a gift bag, marked “don’t open til Christmas” has initiated an intense investigation by the RSPCA in Prenton, Merseyside, United Kingdom. According to the Daily Star, the female black and white pup also sustained puncture wounds to her lower jaw and legs, a prolapsed eye and extensive bruising. Authorities stated the dog must have endured prolonged suffering.
The dog was found on December 19 in a trashcan, and several clues to this suspected case of egregious animal cruelty have been released by officials, hoping someone will provide information to authorities to find the responsible person(s) involved. Detective Inspector Julia Bowden and Inspector Anthony Jones of the RSPCA in Wirral released the following details:
“…When a vet examined her body we found she had extensive bruising, multiple puncture wounds to the lower jaw and legs, recently missing and broken teeth, a broken rear leg, fractured neck and a prolapsed eye. We are keeping an open mind as to what may have happened, but I am keen to find out what happened in this little dog’s final moments.”
The press release continued:
“Someone must recognize her and is clear she must have suffered immensely.”
Authorities confirmed a pink hoody (XXL) with “Discover Life Club” was also found in the Christmas bag with a piece of red carpet. Inspectors do not think the dog had been hit by a car and are concerned how this tragedy happened.
Rest in peace little one. Anyone with information is urged to contact the RSPCA Wirral.
