While lucky dogs with homes of their own are unwinding from the holiday toys and treats, two caged and confused puppies cling to each other in a cage at the overcrowded San Bernardino City Shelter. Barely a year-old, the Jack Russell mixes, dubbed Tiny Tim and Candy Cane, cuddle and stay close to each other for reassurance at all times. A rescue volunteer offers the following observation:tiny-tim-and-candy-2

“Staff has been in kennel and petted, and they have never growled or bit but they are warming up to people..fear…Tiny Tim and Candy Cane are barely a year old; Jack Russel Terrier mix haven’t seen much human kindness, caught in a cage. Probably not had much love or touch from humans. I watched staff pet and the tension and fear just went away. There was never growling or biting. It was like they expected to be hurt and when touched their fear went away.”

A Facebook page following the plights of Tiny Tim and Candy Cane can be followed here. It is possible Candy Cane could be pregnant. Advocates state the dogs have been wandering the streets for a year until they were captured. Pet Harbor link A500325 for Tiny Tim “I am a male, brown and white Jack (Parson) Russell Terrier mix. Shelter staff think I am about 1 year old. I have been at the shelter since Dec 16, 2016.” Pet Harbor link A500324 for Candy Cane “I am a female, black and white Jack (Parson) Russell Terrier mix. Shelter staff think I am about 1 year old. I have been at the shelter since Dec 16, 2016.” Both dogs have been available for adoption and rescue since December 23. Their fates depend on advocates to share their stories with approved rescue organizations, families, friends and social media.tiny-tim-and-candy-3

  4. I wish I could have them! So painful to watch this. I own two pets and can’t have anymore where I rent. Please someone step up and save these babies!

  5. UPDATE: I am fostering the female and her 2 beautiful baby girls who are 6 weeks now. Mommy is coming around but still skittish. The male is with another foster because the female became aggressive after the babies were born but all is doing well.
