UPDATE: One hour ago, this dog was euthanized. Arrangements were being made for the dog to leave with a rescue. Follow this very tragic situation as the shelter volunteers are completely heartbroken.

Just looking at his face, can it even be possible this five-year-old lost sweet pooch named Keller can’t catch a break? Both deaf and blind, he was brought into the San Bernardino City Shelter on July 27; he is in desperate need of an approved rescue organization or qualified foster family. Blind and deaf pittie

Click here for this boy’s Pet Harbor listing. A496280. “I am a male, tan Pit Bull Terrier. Shelter staff think I am about 5 years old. I have been at the shelter since Jul 27, 2016. If you are my owner, you must physically come to the shelter to claim me.” Keller will be available for adoption on August 3. Listed as “rescue only,” Keller needs an experience home with special needs pets to help him maneuver through life with his disabilities. blind and deaf pittie 2

A Facebook page for this dog can be found here.  His video can be viewed here. Described as a volunteer and staff favorite, he is sweet, calm and deserves to be in a loving home. A high kill, crowded shelter is no place for this boy. Share his plight with approved rescue organizations, friends, family and social media contacts. Only one special connection is needed, and so many lives have been saved by sharing. Don’t give up … just one more share, and Keller may find the perfect home. For more information, contact the San Bernardino City Animal Shelter located at 333 Chandler Place, San Bernardino, California.  Hours of operation are Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Adoption and Rescues at counter stop at 4:30 p.m.) The shelter is closed Sunday and Monday. Telephone: (909) 384-1304. Blind and deaf pittie 3

  1. HE’S DEAD – THOSE BASTARDS!!!

Update from Maria Maria Sanchez and the pups of SBC Shelter:
ADVANCED PET CARE KILLED CYBEN 1 HOUR AGO!!! They did not even bother calling the shelter staff for authorization to kill him.
This sweet boy was released to leave early with a rescue and they killed him stating he was suffering and in “grave condition”.
This sweet boy never had a chance. I was working on him all morning. He was going to be safe.
    This is their Facebook page:https://www.facebook.com/advancedpetcareofsanbernardino/…
    This is their YELP: http://www.yelp.com/biz/advanced-pet-care-san-bernardino…
RESCUE only- Cyben, sweet boy, shelter staff favorite is blind and deaf. The shelter environment is not a good place for him. He needs a safe, loving home. ‪#‎A496280‬ available 8/03/16

    • Whoever killed him – may the rest of you life be a living hell for you …. and may you rot in hell for real in your after life. There was no valid reason to do this. And anyone at the despicable San Bernardino Shelter who had anything to do with this ….. shame on you, too. Don’t even claim to care about animals when you do stuff like this.

      • I agree with you. Karma to the fucking bastard that did this to Keller!!!May you burn in hell~~~

    • Really!? He had a rescue and you had to kill him? WTH??? What are you thinking? They were coming for him and ooops, a needle just slipped in there and jumped up and injected itself? WHY ARE YOU THERE FOR? To help find them homes and there one was, and you kill him!!!! Stop being so kill happy!

    • Ok, people- I just looked at the information from where he was PTS. From what I can see, he was at a veterinary-associated facility which was not informed that the rescue was preparing to pick him up, but more importantly, I SAW his medical test results, and he had multiple medical problems, including enlarged liver, ;ymph nodes and spleen, probably cancer (lymphoma) and END-STAGE kidney failure. The facility posted his blood tests and necropsy report on-line because they were being flamed. It was a judgement call, and from seeing the records, I agree with their decision. They did not MURDER a healthy dog, they euthanized a seriously ill dog, I saw a lot more than I mention here, but all I choose to get into is that it’s a typical social media damaging report without knowing the whole story. The facility did a thorough workup on him, and I think made an appropriate decision. The rescue was EXTREMELY likely to have gone along with it if they had let the facility know they planned to pick him up, since they wouldn’t have been able to accommodate what would have amounted to just “keeping him alive” while he died a slow and painful death.

      • Sounds like the poor guy was pretty sick, besides being blind and deaf. Thank you for the information. I’m glad they based their decision on the face that he was very ill and would have suffered. Hey, they just passed the Right To Die Law in California for people. We don’t have to suffer unnecessarily either now.

      • Bullshit NJ vet ,you people go to school for years just like a doctor ,an still yall fk up just like human docs ,and its not your call in the first place to end a dogs life just because you idiots or inside a box looking out instead of out side looking in , human doctors kill more people by mistakes than cancer ,aids, and car wreaks combined each and every year

      • Is that report still available online? Is so, please provide the link, so that concerned individuals can make informed judgments, based about what actually happened.

    • Read his diagnosis from the vet and see the xrays…This dog was suffering with cancer, kidney failure and God knows what pain he was in. So would you have preferred they just drug him up with painkillers so a rescue could get him and some poor foster could watch him suffer for another day or two before he died of natural causes. That is inhumane and this article is so unfair. That vet obviously does a lot of vet care free of charge for the shelter…why would they just decide…hey lets kill a dog today for no reason..use your brain people

  2. WTF is wrong worth the shelter? Murderers!! I am sick of shelters taking the easy way out. Give them a chance. God will judge them for their cruelty

    • “With all the respect for everyone’s opinion here is my statement. During my visit to San Bernardino Animal Shelter this morning around 10:00 am, I did my routine rounds, ordering medications and treatments for 3 new cases when I noticed that Cyben “A496280” had a lot of dark blood all over the floor and some fresh blood coming out his nose. When I asked about his case, I was informed that he has had bloody diarrhea, and already on medication, and he is a stray dog.
I asked them to transfer the patient to Advanced Pet Care for further diagnostic tests. When the dog arrived two hours later, we examined the dog, found him to be having difficulty breathing and bleeding from both rectum and nose. We performed blood work and performed radiographs. There were found multiple abdominal masses. The blood work showed severe anemia with low hemoglobin and extremely low platelets (40,000). The chemistry revealed severe renal disease resulting in increased potassium along with hepatic disease, which is the main reason for the internal bleeding, leading to a slow painful death. Please see the attachment of the blood work and the radiographs.
Human euthanasia was recommended by two vets and was performed on the spot to prevent further prolonging of his suffering.
Any further inquiring about this case is welcome but the way this case was handled by all of you is simply unfair, malicious and un acceptable simply ask yourself what we will gain to go to the San Bernardino Shelter and bring a case to put to sleep after running Blood work, Radiographs, Euthanasia, and Cremation are coasting about $400 without a penny from the shelter and to be named at the end that we are the KILLERS!!!!!
We are requesting that all harassing phone calls to be stopped immediately and ceasing any further insults to my own team members whom you don’t even know. You should be careful in the future before accusing the place and the vets working for free for many years for a mission that he and his team believe in.

      Dr. George Bishay
Proud owner of Advanced Pet Care”

      • Dear Dr. Bishay, thank you very much for explaining the plight of this beautiful boy and I do believe you did the kindest thing for him – while my heart is aching that we have lost another beautiful soul, I understand why you did what you did – no one wants to see animals in pain.

      • Thank you for your thoughtful answer. The posts here are shameful. Sounds the right thing was absolutely done.

      • Dr. Bishay, Thank you for your explanation on the condition and the care this dog received. Admittedly, my first reaction was one of outrage: How dare they murder this beautiful animal !! The information about his physical condition and the diagnostic test results show that euthanasia was the only humane answer. Your expertise, professionalism, compassion and dedication ARE appreciated. You deal with passionate animal lovers every day; these protests are only voiced so crudely from a love of animals and a touch of ignorance of the facts. Please repost your message repeatedly so that your story gets out. With your permission, I will attach your reply to the original message calling for action against your clinic and the SBAS.

      • Unfortunately since social media people don’t wait to find the truth of what took place. My heart feels for the dog and blessed he is in a better place, but saying that I hope this is the truth and God help you if it is not and why wasn’t the rescue notified this is why San Bernadino Shelter was lambasted. Too many time these shelter dogs all over the country are euthanized before given a chance for rescue at HIGH KILL shelters. California especially has a record. Thank you for taking are of the $400.00 which appears your very concerned about and perhaps the rescue would have still taken the dog if you people would have been up front at the beginning of the dog’s stay.

      • Thank you for explaining the situation as to why the dog was put down. I couldn’t believe it happened until I saw your post. People are to quick to jump to to conclusions before knowing the TRUTH!!!!!!

      • Thank you for your explanation of exactly what and why this this poor special baby was sent to HEAVEN so early in life!!!!!

      • Dear sir. There are a lot of people in this country that love and want to save every miss treated animal they can..People like me who already have 9 dogs and just can not take any more advocate and post out to all states to rescue dogs in crowded kill facilities. It takes hours of posting just to find 1 rescue that has room to help. If the animal being posted takes a turn for the worse, please keep that updated.Miss-communication just puts everyone at a stand still. Your compassion to save a wonderful deed. But our job to get them to a safe place so they are not killed is just as important. Thank you for letting us know the truth of what became of this sweet dog..But we need to work together for their better wellbeing…..

      • I saw the information from your workup, and totally agree with your decision. I am disgusted with the way his humane euthanasia was handled by the trolls of uninformed social media. From one vet to another, “no good deed goes unpunished”.
        Allison Milne, VMD

  3. OMG! He was only there a day and they killed him? Why? Didn’t he deserve a chance. This is heartbreaking! Boy I hate people sometimes, especially the ones that are supposed to be compassionate dog advocates and then they do something like this! Rest in peace baby, I’m so sorry people let you down!

    • He was not ‘euthanized’…he was killed. As far as I know he was not suffering or near death. We need to take that work back and not tarnish the memories of those who take their dying dogs to their vets.

      • Patience, read the medical reports. If you can understand them, then you and the rest of the uninformed trolls here will understand why he was euthanized. Not “slaughtered” or “murdered”.

  4. That poor Dog!!!!! OMG !!!!! He was totally disoriented being blind & deaf????MY HEART IS BREAKING!! Those pieces o*!^/#*! ❤RIP BEAUTIFUL BOY❤

  5. Rip You poor pup, what the fuk is wrong with these aholes at this shelter, If I was on that side of country the sorry aholes would be held accountable, Im still going to make some calls to some peeps I know out West

  6. Damn them! Damn them straight to Hell!!! There is a place in Hell for every single scumbag working in a hole calling itself a shelter who makes the kind of decisions who murders innocent dogs under circumstances like these. If the filth who did this feel no guilt, and they NEVER do, they have no chance of escaping it. Too bad.

This sweet boy did not deserve what happened to him. He deserved the chance he was about to receive, and would have received, if not for the trash working at that hell hole ‘shelter’. At least where he is now, he can see and hear, and is probably playing happily with others.

    • Somebody bothered to investigate what happened and below are the facts:

“With all the respect for everyone’s opinion here is my statement. Dr. George Bishay”

      • If this is true then I apologize for passing judgment on a shelter which (as many in this area do) has not so stellar a reputation. Kudos to Advanced Pet Care and Dr Bishay for trying to help this poor pup and thank you for putting the record straight.

      • Dr Biscay, thanks for explaining. Do I understand correctly that someone put the poor guy on the streets?

      • I don’t believe you, we don’t know if that the same dog? And you had the dog cremation before any one could come and see it. And the rescue wanted test done and they will pay for it you But you say No? WHY.? Because you are lier. Show us the truth but you can’t . Please don’t take your dogs to this place they will kill your dog.

      • Show me the truth , there is nothing. His paper might not be his. They have done this before. No one told him to kill him? They cremation him right away. Now they said they didn’t cremation him. What a lie they keep telling .

  7. To all the commenters here who have NOT followed the links which wete provided(!) to Advanced Pet Care of San Bernadino’s page, BELOW IS THE TREATING VETERINARIAN’S STATEMENT concerning his care. This poor boy was EXTREMELY SICK and the treating vets performed the most humane treatment for him. He is no longer suffering and in pain – and he WAS suffering and in pain. To ask him to try to continue to fight under the circumstances of his illness(es) WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY INHUMANE. I, for one, am glad that he is free from his disease(s) and free from his suffering.

Watch the judgement, please. It helps no one, certainly not these deserving animals.

    THE STATEMENT:
With all the respect for everyone’s opinion here is my statement
During my visit to San Bernardino Animal Shelter this morning around 10:00 am, I did my routine rounds, ordering medications and treatments for 3 new cases when I noticed that Cyben “A496280” had a lot of dark blood all over the floor and some fresh blood coming out his nose. • I don’t believe them, everyone else can if you want , But I was following this and they kill him, they is no one there to say yes this is the way it happen. They show picture of a dog but No one knows if it that poor dog. This as happen before with them and it was not the same dog. The rescue want to paid for test to be done and they said No, and they cremation him right away , Why? Because they kill him they get paid for dead dogs body’s by lb. So everyone out here can be on there side but I am not..

  8. I saw the video today he was ;so sweet and it says he could be taking on August 3rd why did they killed him did not give him a chance how sad. Why Why Why why did they do this it’s only been one day.

  9. Seriously? You killed him with a rescue in the works? What the hell ..he was taking up too much of your precious, time? You are exactly what is wrong in these shelters’..you play GOD…
GOD have mercy the day you stand before him…these decision’s you are making…
You are nothing but murder’s …you rank up there with serial killers’ ..
How do you wake up and go to work?
How about getting done therapy to figure, out why you are so needle happy? Maybe if we paid you to find homes’ …instead of paying you to kill innocent animals’ you might think twice, before you stop a beating heart!

  10. shame on that shelter for killing a dog when there was a rescue willing to take him!!!! when is this idiocracy going to end?!?!?! ITS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT KILLING ANIMALS ITS SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT SAVING ANIMALS!!!! 🙁

  11. it seems this poor boy was much sicker than being blind and deaf. with the results of the tests it was I believe the most humane thing to do for him. I hate it when animals are killed without good reason, but this boy needed to be released from his pain and suffering. He is in a better place now. RIP sweet baby

  12. Basters you assassins murders why did you murder Keller you couldn’t wait assholes I hope you don’t get to your destination on your way home or anywhere do who ever is waiting for you will have to wait sitting down cz standing you’ll grow old waiting idiots.

  13. Everyone I was very saddened by this death, but if you look at the video from 29 to 33 you will see dark blood on the floor behind his front paws, it looks like blood and I don’t think they noticed while they were filming him.

  14. Let me see if I’m understanding this correctly. The dog is listed as available for adoption on Aug. 3 and then he’s killed on Aug. 3? And a rescue had offered to take him? This is a very poorly run shelter isn’t it?

    • I just found the post about this dog from the vet who examined and euthanized him. The results of his examination were not mentioned in the Facebook post unfortunately. You have to go through numerous posts to find his comments. Under these circumstances, he had to euthanize the dog. The dog was in pain, it had bleeding tumors and there was really no other option.

  15. I’m a little confused. I’ve read this dog was there less than 24hrs. If this is true, how did he become so sick in such a short time? Also, how come nobody noticed the dried blood on the floor until the next morning when the doctor did his rounds? How could a deaf and blind dog be a stray? Something is just not right with this story.

    • The dog didn’t grow tumors overnight, he was already sick before winding up at the shelter. He certainly looks like he feels terrible in these photos. A blind and deaf dog can become a stray when the owner notices something wrong and can’t afford or doesn’t want to spend the money, so they dump him on the street. Now that $400 testing, euthanasia and cremation bill is someone else’s responsibility.

  16. I am a very, very huge animal advocate. I stand up for animal rights all over the place. I believe animal abusers should have felony charges brought up against them and face no less than 20 years in jail. I have 6 dogs and 2 cats of my own and out of this only one is not a rescue. With that being said, I want to add I work in health care. I have for 22 years. I’ve seen pain, suffering, abuse, neglect happen to quite a few of the residents that I’ve had to help care for and work with in hopes to return to their maximum functional potential. I also have to add that I’ve seen many children suffer through cancer and other debilitating diseases. My own father ended up in the hospital in 2006 with what was supposed to be pneumonia. Long story short. He didn’t make it. My oldest sister had diabetes and her blood sugar went up to 1220. She went into a coma and respiratory distress. They had to in-tubate her. She didn’t make it. Why am I telling you all this? Through all of this I’ve had to watch families and MDs make decisions, hard decisions to let their loved ones go, with dignity. In peace. With as little pain as possible. For “the love of the patient” out of un-selfishness. These family members, pets and people, that I’ve seen over all these years, were released from their suffering for their sake, not for anyone else’s pleasure. I also had to step up to the plate along with some other family members and let my dad and sister go. They could of had drugs to make them stay longer. Lay their. Drag the illness on that was going to kill them very slowly, in pain, just so we could selfishly hold onto them. But we chose the right thing. Despite how much it hurt and still does, just like so many families hands I’ve held, who have had to make that same horrible choice, for the love of their family member.
This baby was ate up with cancer. And the disease this baby had was what had caused the baby to go blind and deaf. The disease was killing the baby. Eating this baby from the inside out. There are x-rays and other test results that show what was going on. The tests were paid for out of the pocket of the vet, even though they had someone else perform the test so people would see what this poor, baby was going through. The vet was trying to treat the baby and help him when they found out what was actually wrong. They were also paying for the care and treatments out of their pocket and I don’t know many vets that do this. In fact, this is the first I’ve heard of. They did not know a rescue was coming to get the baby until after the baby was euthanized. No one told them. However, with the diagnosis’ that this baby was slowly dying from and from what I read after digging into it, was not curable. The baby was going to suffer a lot more and die period. Someone allowed the baby to get this bad and end up on the street, lost. This is the monster that everyone should be mad at. The baby should have been taken care of before getting this bad as its internal organs would not have been shutting down and eating away from the inside out so to speak. There had to of been signs this baby was sick. The vet and facility did something sweet and wonderful for this dear baby. They gave this baby a death that had less pain and more dignity than there would have been had someone taken it and tried to shoot medication, Ivs, surgery after surgery that was not going to work and would of caused more pain and debilitation. They gave the baby human kindness. They stepped up where others wouldn’t. They put the baby first before others selfish thoughts and needs. They did the right thing.

When they have been dumped out in the Country, they face Starvation, Dehydration (if not around a source of water), as well as Predatory Animals such as Coyotes, Hawks, Owls etc., they also face diseases such as Rabies and whatnot.

  18. Who the fuck kills a deaf and blind dog or any animal for that matter? Keller deserved a chance and people who decided to kill him should have moved mountains to save him. I hope those bastards get the worst kind of karma there is. Stupid, inhumane, low life losers should be tied to the rear bumper of a car and dragged across a glass and rocked filled road until all that’s left is their useless skeleton.

  19. The POS owner that dumped him at a kill shelter is the one that KILLED him. Original owner, upon you, shall be visited in your sleeping hours, the fear, the confusion, desperation and everything your poor blind and deaf dog did. You will know the piercing of the needle that is delivering a toxic soup into your vein. You will know this every night or day you close your eyes for rest, peaceful sleep will elude you as you live these moments over and over again until you close your eyes for the last time.

  20. This dog was not a stray he was probably dumped there may the pos owner go blind then deaf and then suffer a horrific death

And wtf is wrong with this shithole shelter this dog had a rescue … very sad how America treats their handicapped animals
Thet were such in a hurry to murder the innocent there should be an investigation this is wrong

  21. killing that deaf and blind dog was one of the cruelest and most heartless things i’ve ever heard of in my life. especially when there people that would have taken him. as if his life wasn’t already crappy enough you managed to find a way to make it worse. very, very sad story.

  22. They killed this baby only after 24 hours??? Did I misunderstand??? I thought they had to wait 5 or 7 days for the owner to find it. This is beyond horrible

  23. I am so upset by this with tears running down my eyes!. He deserved a chance to find a loving home and it seems like he didn’t get that chance. I wish I had known about him sooner and even though I live in Washington state I would have adopted him. In the past, I had a Beagle that went blind and the fact he couldn’t see didn’t change him… he was still the same loving dog… he was still able to get around and live a happy life. I learned a lot from him when he lost his sight,. He passed away a few years ago at the age of 12. I miss him! I

  24. Why the freak was he euthanized? Just read at the top he was euthanized? What’s wrong with you people? Would you kill Helen Keller if you got hold of her–probably! Someone should “euthanize” the shelter and it’s owners who decided to put her/him down! Take them out of business!

    • There have been NUMEROUS posts explaining that the dog had advanced cancer, severe internal bleeding, was in pain, and was suffering. The dog was humanely euthanized, and now a torches-and-pitchforks mob is harrassing and threatening the vet who treated this dog with kindness and allieviated his suffering. I am as supportive of animal rights as the next person, but it helps NO ONE when we attack vets who are volunteering their services and making very difficult, heart-wrenching decisions.

  25. I do not like kill shelters and I can’t imagine working in one, having to euthanize healthy, adoptable pets. What I dislike even more are the humans that make it necessary for these places to exist! We hear all the asinine excuses..I didn’t know he/she was going to get that big..he/she has more energy than I expected..we just had a baby..or better yet ” I’m allergic”..they are all deplorable to me. A dog can live up to 18-20 years and cats even longer. If you can’t commit to this or cannot afford to care for a pet medically if the need arises, then collect stuffed animals!!! I lost my baby, my black lab named Dominic, just 2 days shy of his 14th burthday. It wasn’t neatly enough time..sure wish every animal had that kind of life because kill shelters just wouldn’t exist!!!

  26. I strongly believe it the decision to euthanize this dog was in it’s best interests. How can this dog be expected to learn to communicate with a new set of owners! It would have startled at every touch as it could not see it coming. It would not be able to hear a soothing voice. I think it would have been heartless to rehome this dog.

  27. These people must just get off on MURDERING innocent animals..how the hell do they sleep at night (and who the hell would sleep with them? ugh) how do they look themselves in the mirror? I bet they go to church every Sunday though..to repent..
whatever…you are MURDERERS….someone was going to rescue him

  28. I’m not for these shelters putting down perfectly healthy animals, but as NJ Vet and others have pointed out. If the dog was had all those things wrong with him and was suffering, then they did the best thing by putting him down, regardless if a shelter was coming to get him or not. I’ve helped run a rescue in the past and have and still do have lots of animals myself and it’s never easy when it comes to putting down an animal. I know, I’ve had to put down a few of my own and it still breaks my heart, but I knew it was the right thing to do. So maybe instead of spending all this energy on a case where they did the right thing, we should put it towards all that assholes out there that are abusing and killing healthy animals or companies that abuse and torture millions of animals every year in the name of science saying it’s for our best interest when there’s now other options.

  29. I BELIEVE ALL THESE SHELTERS SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN THEY HAVE NO BUSINESS TAKING A LIFE FROM A DISABLED ANIMAL SHAME ON YOU SHAME ON YOU
