Mocha is a ten-year-old Chow Chow who has just given up. The heartbroken dog lies in her kennel at the Carson Animal Care Center and barely moves to acknowledge anyone walking by her cage. Her eyes look down onto her paws, her demeanor barely recognizable as a dog wishing for a future. Mocha has given up.mocha-the-chow-2

Click here for Mocha’s Pet Harbor listing. A5012686. “My name is Mocha and I am described as a female, brown Chow Chow. The shelter thinks I am about 10 years old. I have been at the shelter since Nov 17, 2016.” For more information about this animal, call Los Angeles County Animal Control – Carson at (310) 523-9566. A Facebook page can be found for Mocha here.

From Mocha’s matted and dirty coat, her life most likely was not an easy one. On Thursday, her family surrendered her to the shelter telling the staff they could no longer to care for her. This senior is a special needs pooch and demonstrates having problems with balance and walking. There has been interest in helping her, but a foster home is needed to assist. Mocha will need followup veterinary care, and a friend who will scratch her gently and assure her that finally she is loved. More information is available here. Share Mocha’s plight with approved rescue organizations, friends, family and social media contacts. Sharing saves lives.

Please help Mocha find that miracle she needs.

  1. There is an epidemic of auburn (?) senior chows being dumped in Southern California. Here is another on. Mocha is beyond heartbroken. Please share to help Mocha find a family that will appreciate her for the gem she is.

    • We bought for a riding school from one person who ‘scouted’ for us. He would see potential in broken sweethearts like this pup, and would bring them to us. One in particular was so frightened when people were close, that she retreated to the far corner of her stall and kind of ‘bunched up’ to leap out of harms way. Too much handing too early would have been disastrous. They needed to settle in for a bit and get accustomed to us just walking by, let alone handling them.

  2. WHY NOT PUT HER IN A FOSTER HOME FOR SPECIAL NEEDS, SHE DESERVES ALL THE RESPECT AND LOVE AND PROTECTION LIKE ANY SPECIAL NEEDS PERSON AND ANY SPECIAL NEEDS ANIMAL, IN THE MEAN TIME GIVE HER A BATH AND TAKE CARE OF THE MATTED HAIR, IF YOU DO REALLY CARE!!!!!!

  3. All these people saying how sad, giving well wishes, etc., yet very few actually offer to do anything other than make comments that won’t help the dog get rescued. If you can’t adopt, rescue or foster, can you please consider a pledge donation? This dog will be a very expensive rescue due to medical needs and the only way to attract a rescue for a senior will be to have both a long term foster in place, and lots of pledges.

  4. I will contribute to her care – I’m not in a position to adopt (working all day, though I would much rather spend my days with someone like Mocha) but I can help to support her.

MOCHA ~ RESCUED 11/22/16 BY THE ANIMAL DEBT PROJECT, INC. 501C3 A REGISTERED FEDERAL NON-PROFIT http://www.theanimaldebtproject.com

RESCUED 11/22/16 MOCHA #A5012686 a 10 year-0ld Chow who was neglected & starved… she suffered, grew old and they cast her aside. Betrayed once, betrayed twice Mocha had a CTA who cancelled and we cried. ADP saw the beauty shining from this elegant matriarch Lady and could not in all good conscience leave her there, a plan quickly devised. MOCHA is SAFE! ANIMAL DEBT PROJECT joined forces with RESQUE PET to ensure that MOCHA has the love, compassion and medical care she’s apparently never had. We doubt this dog has ever seen a Vet in her life!
MOCHA was vetted thoroughly by our Senior and Special Needs Vet, Dr William Grant II in Garden Grove, and had a thorough work up. After a deep grooming, time to heal and decompress, MOCHA is now living the life she was destined for with her forever family! Mocha is loved, pampered, warm and safe at last.
This beautiful, sweet soul is now safe and was SAVED by The Animal Debt Project with a little help from his friends, Saving Carson Shelter Dogs and the village that refused to give up on her.

Again, our SINCERE THANKS for helping to save our Queen Bee ~ MOCHA

Please honor your pledge to the Animal Debt Project so that they can continue their work in saving precious lives.

  5. For those commenting why don’t they brush her and clean her up, this is a hi kill county shelter in L.A.. Dogs like her don’t get much time there before they’re Euthanized. The real help would be to contact CA State Reps and demand SHELTER reform. This is happening everyday in L.A. shelters. Get involved!

  6. HER EX OWNERS ARE NOTHING MORE THEN TRASH YOU NO GOOD BASTARDS !!!!!!! ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
