Breck Ruddick, the starting quarterback at Missouri State, was suspended for the entire football season after allegations that he shattered a dog’s jaw. According to PennLive, the University’s coach Dave Steckel stated on Monday, that the dog beating quarterback won’t be playing the rest of the season, however he will be back with his scholarship and in good standing next year.

On September 25, the school released a statement:breck-ruddick

“It has recently come to the attention of head football coach Dave Steckel and Missouri State University that starting quarterback, Breck Ruddick, is accused of animal abuse. The University considers this to be a serious allegation and as such, has taken the following actions:

·Ruddick is suspended indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the team.

·The office of student conduct is coordinating an investigation and will turn findings over to Athletics for team discipline and then will begin university disciplinary action if appropriate. The investigation is a top priority for the University and the football team. It will be prompt, thorough and fair.”

The disturbing event centered around the 6’3″, 200-pound quarterback who punched an Australian shepherd he had been watching. The dog was repeatedly hit so hard that his jaw was shattered and six of its teeth were either knocked out or broken.

How it must count to ignore animal cruelty allegations of this magnitude since Ruddick led the Bears to victory in two games; not to mention how Coach Steckel has a big list of hope for the quarterback in the 2018 season. It has not been revealed what special stipulations Steckel has laid upon Ruddick to encourage better behavior, but Coach Steckel says he has been praying for his star and even reading him Bible quotes.

Below is the Facebook post which started the disturbing social media outrage against Ruddick. Posted by Shelby Filbeck, a student at the school, on September 23, the photos of the injured dog were enough to break anyone’s heart:

“This is not my dog, but this story deserves to be heard. Earlier this week one of my close friends left her adorable sweet loving dog with Breck Ruddick. This was someone she trusted, this was a guy who has watched her dog before and who she has spent a good amount of time with as friends. She never thought leaving her 42 pound Australian Shepherd with Breck, a 200+ pound MSU football player, would lead to this. Never once did she, nor anyone else for that matter, believe that Breck could get so upset with this sweet dog that he would hit him in the jaw, not just once but three times. After “losing his cool” and hitting poor Luca he led him outside and let him run off, all alone and bleeding profusely. Breck told Katie that “Luca had ran off” leaving out the part about him beating the crap out of Luca. She spent the whole night looking for her dog. The next day a girl saw Katie’s post on Facebook and explained that she had found Luca in a parking lot covered in blood. The girl was nice enough to take him home and attempted to clean him up. When he was returned to Katie, the next day, he was STILL bleeding. He was then rushed over to the vet where they found that his jaw had been broken and he would need surgery. The next day Luca went in for surgery where it was found that his jaw bones were shattered (not just broken), he had to have 6 teeth pulled, which will be permanently gone forever and they had to keep him at the vets for two days instead of one. He can no longer eat solid food and will have to be on an oatmeal based diet. That’s when the vet explained to Katie that Luca had to have been hit more than once, with literally all of Breck’s force or with some other object, because the trauma was so extensive it could not have been from one single punch.

This story makes me sick to my stomach, I love my own dog more than anything in the world and I can’t even imagine what Katie is going through. No animal deserves to be treated this way, and no human should be capable of hurting a defenseless animal to this extent. Breck was careless and insensitive. He needs help and his actions need to be accounted for. The pictures below show how much pain Luca has went through and how his life will be forever altered by one heartless person. Please pray for this sweet dog and his owner.”

According to the Ozark Sport Zone, Breck has admitted to the actions and has apologized to the team and the school. Animal Control of Springfield-Greene County Health Department cited Ruddick for animal cruelty and letting a dog run at large. The case is still ongoing by the municipal prosecutor.

On Monday, Shelby added to her Facebook page; directed at the school, the dog beating quarterback and perhaps honing in on Coach Steckel?

“I really wish athletes were treated the same as other students, but you can’t change the system. If this were any other student at MSU they would be kicked off campus, but instead he gets a slap on the wrist. One day he’ll have to answer to a much higher power, who I pray isn’t quite so lenient.”

Actions like this definitely makes one think doesn’t it? Dog beating quarterbacks just receive slaps on the wrists?

  1. wow again football more important then abuse..coach Dave Steckel you are a walking talking piece of shit, letting him come back and play with scholarship????????????? hope he gets hit in the head at a game …………….. and you too you piece of shit

  2. Disrespectful piece of shit should be charged and in jail and never see the light of day What Happens To Any Animal Should Happen To A Human Animals Deserve Life More Than A Lot Of Humans Stop All Animal Cruelty A Round The World ?

  3. Breck Ruddick, is a piece of shit, is what he is! He’s no quarterback at MSU? Athletes are sportsmen whom we are supposed to look up to because of their talent in sportsmanship; they’re strong tenacity to win at games, is the athlete who scored that one point that made the difference between a good or bad team and who’s loyalty to their university is above all. An athlete’s outstanding performance is what makes them stand out from the rest. But to savagely beat an innocent dog to the point of dramatically changing what poor dog’s life… is unacceptable! This so called “athlete” (which he’s not!) Not just broke the dog’s jaw, but shattered the jaw?!!! What kind of disgusting and despicable human is he? I’ll tell you, he’s one that must be held accountable for his actions of abuse towards an innocent and defenseless dog! Fuck the school and the coaches, if they look beyond this tragic abuse of this dog! This dog is a living being who breathes air, needs food & water to sustain its life and is capable of feeling happiness, sadness and sorrow! That’s a lot more than this prick athlete can feel! These actions of abuse merit punishment and discipline! And if that sports disciplinary committee and the coaches and the school don’t apply the strictest possible punishment to this so called “athlete” (bullshit), then it’s fair to say that MSC is producing “shit” athlete students and are taught that, according to MSU’s agenda, it’s ok, to beat the crap out of animals or whoever and and get away with no repricautions whatsoever?! I don’t think so Breck Roddick! You’re a stinking MFSOB POS animal abuser… a criminal! And you’re surrounded by low life enablers, all those in authority! I hope you get your day in court you disgusting and despicable COWARD! How about picking on someone your own size, you POS COWARD!

  4. What do you expect, it’s Missouri. Puppy mills are rampant, and despite the passing of Prop. B, legislators have watered down the protections the dogs in them should be having. So many dog fighters in the state. So much animal abuse. You’ll never get enough people to boycott games this monster plays in. For too many, sports is all that matters. You can beat (and even kill) an animal, rape an unconscious woman, or just about anything else you want – as long as you are a sports star. Look at Michael Vick. At least he had to serve some time, but he’s back, making millions by playing football and getting endorsements. We really need to make the world of profession – and even college and high school – sports responsible for what their players do.

  5. He should be in jail and forced to undergo treatment. He is a very sick person. WhY is he on campus? Football and the school have a black soul.

    • Perhaps he is not even mentally ill, he is just plain MEAN! He is only apologizing because it makes him look better in the eyes of the public, means less punishment. Well it worked, the POS is forgiven, probably because the team is more concerned about winning the game, moreso than harming an innocent being. The dog will now suffer for the rest of its life, but its OK, the POS is sorry for his wrongdoing.

  6. So, he apologized to the team and the school? As in, “sorry I got caught and you now have to clean up my mess”? What about Katie? What about paying for the vet care for Luca? How is he going to reimburse Katie and Luca for the trauma they had to go through? Animal abuse is a felony in all 50 US states, why are no criminal charges filed? What is going on here???

  7. Hail the “almighty” football quarterback. It doesn’t matter what these thugs do or to whom they do it to, they are above the law and heaven forbid they receive any “real” punishment for repeatedly hitting an innocent dog so hard that his jaw was shattered and six of its teeth were either knocked out or broken. I can only hope he receives the same and someone dishes some justice for Luca. I’m sure his apologizing makes it right in this “entitled” POS’s eyes I hope he is at least held responsible for the Vet bills for what he has done!

  8. Time for “do unto others….” take his sorry ass and break his jaw, knock out some teeth and kick him out the door for a couple of days. Maybe he will think twice should he have to feel his own rage against him.

  9. He should be charged with animal cruelty!! Serve time and pay restitution for the treatment of the dog he “BEAT / ABUSED” plus a percentage to go towards other abuse cases!!! AND be kicked off the team !!! HELLO, these are life decisions, choices and morals. Letting him get off, is condoning his actions and undermining the schools that have done the right thing! Maybe coach has the same mindset / values (or lack there of) / temperament and that is why this doesn’t seem like a big deal !!! ????? He and the coach should have to volunteer time in an animal shelter ….

  10. Hi karma is a b**** he’s lucky cuz you never done anything like that have any calibration to my dogs he will not have to worry about ever play football again that be the least of his f***** Problems

  11. How far will this young
insolent , abusive, young man be the next time he get upset with his girlfriend , his newborn child, another unfortunate animal, a homeless person, an elder person and kick the Holy Hell out of them , beat them senseless, beat their head on the ground, choke them!!! This person is extremely disturbed, and YUET THE UNIVERSITY THINKS FOOTBALL IS MORE IMPORTANT!!!! WOW Net time it will be more violent and brutal …. HIDE NAD WATCH!!!

  12. This is so wrong! All you have to do is throw a football and your sins are forgiven no matter what they are, who you hurt or who you kill! This is disgusting! The filthy SOB belongs in jail, not on a football field at a university with a scholarship.

  13. ·Ruddick is suspended indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the team. OR…until next year. Geez! That’s talking out of both sides of your face MSU. We are not stupid. Money talks and s**t walks. In this case, it plays football.

  14. He needs to be in jail. What if someone’s child git on his nerves, what might he do. This is happening far too often and these guys need to be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

  15. That filth does not deserve a scholarship or freedom. One of the reasons we struggle to keep a moral population is too much immoral people and things being allowed to continue without reproach. No respect, laziness, greed, abuse, corruption always at the expense of innocent or weaker beings.Sports,Corporations and Government are the ones SUPPOSED to uphold morals are the ones dragging them to the gutter.Eventually things will be so corrupt the only out will be to decimate and start over

  16. These amazing and kind people said all I was thinking Thank you. he will pay one way or another here’s hoping someone will take care of that.

  17. I am 64 years old. It seems that we did not have as much of this behavior years ago. I know things happened. The outlets for passing out and receiving the news certainly wasn’t what it is today. I think much of the difference is that no one takes responsibility for their actions. Those that are in a position to dole out consequences and to see to it that they are followed don’t do their job. What are they afraid of? Who’s offering bribes to the judges to give lenient sentences? These judges, coaches, and administrators need to lose their jobs. Has anyone started a group that can get harsher sentences for everyone involved? I taught school for 40 years. What made me retire when I really wasn’t ready – parents whose little darlings never do anything wrong and children who have been taught that they can do or say whatever they want. This abuser must have been one of those kids. What have the judge, the coach, the scholarship committee, the president of the college, and the parents done to help this kid become a decent and compassionate adult? If this kid goes out and abuses another animal or a person, what are the adults who were to teach him right from wrong going to say? Who’s going to accept the blame for the way he turned out. The girl who owns the dog should file a civil suit (if that can be done) and be reimbursed for all medical costs as well as pain and suffering.

  18. Is anyone going to start a petition? What about the way the authorities are adding insult to injury against the dogs owner?, She has to pay the vet and see her dog suffer for the rest of its life – and this sadist says he’s sorry and everyone says “OK, just lie low for a year, keep your full scholorship, just let it blow over…”

Oh ya… I guess it is OK – We came DAMN close to having a felon for President….. (My how far the mighty have fallen….)

  19. I would really be afraid of the man above. one more comment if you beat animals how about children, do you have any?Keep a close watch out for this person he’ ;somebody I dont want to be around.
