A one-year-old frightened Labrador retriever has no concept of what a  brief shelter stay in the overcrowded Downey Animal Care in California  is destined to bring. She curls up in the corner of the noisy kennel trying her best to disappear into the safety of the walls behind her; the barking and the strangers just make her shiver with fear. Tragically, too many healthy dogs are euthanized after they are labeled as “being fearful.”Downey A4988334 2 On Monday afternoon, volunteer Sal Valdepena sadly predicted the puppy’s fate based on his experience at the shelter:

“Terrified dog will not move. She will likely be killed for fear.”

Click here for this dog’s Pet Harbor listing. Animal ID: A4988334. “I don’t have a name yet and I’m an approximately 1 year old female Labrador retriever.  I am not yet spayed.  I have been at the Downey Animal Care Center since August 30, 2016.  I am available on September 3, 2016.  You can visit me at my temporary home at DCLINIC.”  A Facebook page for this dog can be found here.

Please share this puppy’s plight with approved rescue organizations, friends, family and social media contacts. Advocates have pledged funds to be paid to an approved rescue organization to help with expenses. An additional Facebook page can be found here. There’s not  much time, and she needs help now. Sharing saves lives. For more information about this dog contact the Downey Animal Care Center by calling (562) 940-6898.

    • Downey Shelter in California as Well as Carson ARE Probably two of the HIGHEST KILL Shelters in The USA… The powers that be in this STATE have little REGARD for animal rights,,,, HELL THEY DON”T HAVE ANY …. I think a lot of the individuals working there care about the animals BUT THE GOVERNOR AND THE LLEGISLATION OF THIS STATE “SUCK”!!! THEY RESUSE TO ADOPT SHELTER DOGS TO OUT OF STATE RESCUES or individuals…. HELL THEY THINK KILLING THEM IS EASIER!!!! SAYS ALOT FOR THE whole damn STATE as far as I’m concerned!!!

      • I live in Wyoming and I SINCERELY don’t think they would listen to Me for 10 seconds…. Maybe there is someone reading this post has an IDEA what you are talking about !!!! We have several rescues here that we care for and couldn’t possibly drive out there, BUT it wouldn’t do any good as they don’t adopt out of STATE!!!!

  2. NOW THIS !!!! is a case where a rescue SHOULD STEP UP to the PLATE and HELP out in the GOD FORSAKEN STATE OF KILL HAPPY SHELTERS and the ” MASSIVE UNCARING ” segment of the POPULATION ( GUPPIES) that could give ONE IOTA about the pet they took to the shelter because The want to go to Bermuda for the weekend !!! POSIVIVELY SICKING !!! The WELL DESERVING ONE year old dog does NOT deserve to DIE because “””” WHAR THE HELL” She is scared… Wouldn’t any ONE OF US BE IN THE SAME SITUTATION if just picked up at our home and taken to a “STOCKAGE with a WIRE FENCE and HUNDREDS of other HUMANS ! ALL of which have NO IDEA WE are going to BE EUTHANIZED”””!!!!!! REMIND “U” of something !!!! Sure as HELL DOES ME!!! YET THIS PUTRID STATE of California WON”T let other STATES or RESCUES HELP IN SAVING THEIR DOGS …. GOVERNOR JERRY BROWN is ANOTHER HITLER!!!!

An she will be too !!’ I pray a rescue will help her .., Have you asked for help ?? Have you called anyone?? I believe the folks that work there just get to used to killing these Great Dogs… Please keep us posted !! Isn’t any of the workers there willing to step up an help????

    • The volunteer Sal has informed the shelter this dog is getting a lot of social media attention, so hopefully his life will be saved. There is an interested person, but no dog is safe until they are out of the shelter. Thank you for your help. That’s how so many are able to be saved! 😉

  5. Do not and I mean do not euthanize this Baby!
I thought Californians were more evolved, I am finding that you are Barbarians!
Charleston County South Car a total No Kill County, we are working toward the state.
You officials there earn your dollars, the F B I just made Animal Cruelty A Class A Felony.
Animal Cruelty is a crime against our Society as whole.
I am sick of County commissioners and right up to state level turning their backs on this!
If you put this puppy down because it is afraid if I have anything to do with it will see this story is picked up by National Press.
    ASPCA Guardian!
I personally Pledge $100 dollars toward the rescue of this precious Fur Baby.

  6. What the hell is wrong with California Law Makers. Have they no compassion for animals. They deserve to live the same as people do, remember God made them to, and not for some but hole to kill them. Please God don’t let them kill her just because she’s afraid in Jesus’ precious name. Remember you said vengouseie is mine.

  7. This is a YEAR old Puppy!! Of course it’s scared….
I hope this pup is saved in time and gets a chance at a forever loving home!!
