The person accused of abandoning a puppy in a Lansing, Michigan, apartment complex dumpster has been identified. On Friday, the Ingham County Animal Control and Shelter updated Facebook followers of the break in the cruelty case.

The shelter wrote, “Thank you for your help! The person responsible for Spartacus, the puppy that was found in the dumpster, has been found!” A $500 reward had been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever abandoned the eight-week-old pit bull mix puppy who was found earlier this month in a dumpster located near Jolly Rd and Martin Luther King Blvd.

According to the shelter, the pup, dubbed “Spartacus,” has now been made available for adoption. The shelter commented on his popularity, and how the new adopter will be selected, “Due to the overwhelming number of interested adopters we will be taking applications until 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 20th. We ask applicants to include a paragraph about why they believe they are the best home for Spartacus. Staff will review applications for the most qualified adopters. All applications must be turned in in person.”

According to WILX News, the accused puppy dumper will likely face charges for animal abandonment, and possible animal cruelty, next week.
