On a cold December night, a heartless owner abandoned a litter of puppies at a Corsicana, Texas car wash. When the staff arrived on Monday morning, they were shocked to see a soaking wet cardboard box moving. And as they opened the box, five adorable abandoned puppies had been huddled together trying their best to stay warm and safe.puppies-at-carwash-2

The box, soaked from the urine of the puppies, also had a layer of puppy kibble covering the bottom of the box. Perhaps the person who abandoned the puppies had hoped the food would sustain the pups until someone discovered them in time. When East Dallas Pet Rescue was called for help, organization founder, Jaclyn Smith sent a volunteer out to retrieve the puppies. Three of the five puppies were immediately sent to the local veterinarian for checkups.puppies-at-carwash3

Smith was able to find foster homes for three of the abandoned puppies. If  interested in fostering the two remaining pups, please contact Jaclyn Smith of the East Dallas Pet Rescue, by visiting the information page available here.

By spaying or neutering pets, millions of healthy dogs and cats would not be euthanized in the United States. There are simply not enough homes for every pet. There are also medical and behavior benefits:

  • Female dogs live longer and happier lives.
  • Male dogs do not get testicular cancer and some problems with prostrates.
  • Spayed female dogs do not go into heat.
  • Male dogs are less likely to roam.
  • Neutered male dogs are generally easier to train and behave better.puppies-at-carwash-5
  • Spaying and neutering saves money.

It is a crime of animal cruelty to abandon pets. There are shelters, rescue organizations and pages and pages of helpful solutions to finding safe places for unwanted puppies. Don’t drop them off – these puppies were just incredibly lucky. It is frightening to think what could have happened to these little ones.

  1. I’m so sick of many “humans” – who the H does this to puppies???? I’m glad they had each other for warmth – that may have been the only way they survived.
