In Mesa, Arizona, a Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office K-9 was attacked by three dogs during a standoff as a SWAT team yelled for a man suspected of shooting at his girlfriend to surrender, reports CbsNews. Marko

The suspect, Richard Winn was ordered to surrender, and as authorities waited, three large dogs ran out and attacked the leashed K-9 named Marko. An officer shot and killed one of the attacking dogs. Marko, however seemed unfazed and even though he was bloody and clearly injured, the dog continued to concentrate on his handler’s commands.

“He (Marko) wasn’t distracted, even after being attacked by another dog,” stated the owner of Delta Canina Services, Bob Solimini, who has trained dogs for police work nationwide.

It took two hours before Winn finally surrendered as officers used tear gas and a rubber bullet to capture the man. Marko FB

According to the Facebook page for the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, Marko is recovering and is expected to be fine. No updates have been provided as to the suspect’s two surviving dogs.

Check out the chaos and risk the officers, as well as Marko, experienced during this dangerous encounter.

  1. THIS DOG IS WAY TOO THIN!!! I SAW HIS RIBS FIRST, AND ALL OF HIS VERTEBRAE ARE STICKING UP OUT OF HIS BACK!!! THIS NEEFS TO BE ADDRESSED!!!

    • Simmer down buckaroo. It’s a Malinois. They are svelte. They are active dogs. This is a normal looking Malinois. Get a grip.

  2. The man likely told his dogs to attack. It’s not their fault, but in cases like this, dogs are raised to be aggressive and to respond to attack commands. Just like with fighting dogs, they CAN be rehabilitated, but it takes time and funds that so many rescues just don’t have. Glad the K9 officer will be okay. RIP to the dog that was shot, but in this case, I don’t blame the police. It’s not like they shot a dog sitting peacefully in his yard. I hope this man gets some serious animal cruelty charges on top of things like resisting arrest, etc.

    • What animal behavior would have helped in this case, with several pit bulls attacking a valuable K9 cop?? Only one of the dogs was shot, and yet all were attacking, but that one was going for the back of the neck, which could have mortally wounded the K9. No problem at all with what they did.

  3. I don’t like dogs being shot by the police but when dogs are attacking a police K-9, I don’t think there was much recourse but to shoot the dog. I would like to know what happened to the other dogs. I’m Glad K-9 Marko will be ok. I’m glad they got the suspect, he should face charges for letting his dogs attack!
