Some dogs have absolutely no luck. Take for instance Tarzan, a two-year-old Mastiff found as a stray and brought to the Miami-Dade Animal Services on August 5. Strike 1 – Tarzan is a black dog; the “most walked by” and ignored dog color at shelters. Strike 2 – his less than flawless looks with scars from a previous tortured life and Strike 3 – his sadness and lack of enthusiasm as visitors walk by are heartbreaking.
Click here for Tarzan’s Pet Harbor listing. Tarzan ID#A1806166. “I am an unaltered male, black Mastiff mix. The shelter staff think I am about 2 years old. I have been at the shelter since Aug 05, 2016.” For more information about this animal, call Miami-Dade Animal Services at (305) 884-1101. A Facebook page for Tarzan can be found here.
Marta Sanchez, a volunteer at the shelter has this to say about 84-pound Tarzan, who is available to be fostered or adopted:
“Despondent and sad.. Gets up with a little coaxing and approaches. This 2 yo mastiff mix boy has old battle scars throughout. Possibly used as a bait dog. His life sure has not been easy. His less than flawless looks will not appeal to adopters, and a black dog at that. Please share for a good outcome.”

Seriously where had the world gone ? How mean sad ! Kill the ppl who do this
Tarzan looks so much older than his young 2 years. Poor boy!
OMG, he’s beautiful! Sharing with prayers that he gets the chance he deserves.
Please read this article about a sweet dog that’s had a hard life, Tarzan. Tarzan desperately needs to get out of the shelter and into a home where he can decompress from the shelter as well as his prior life. Unfortunately, as the article mentions, Tarzan has not attracted any attention because of his scars and because he’s a black dog.Go figure. But this beautiful black dog has so much love to give and a lot of years to give it. Please share to help him find a foster home pledges and a rescue group to oversee his care until he finds his new furever home. He’s going to make someone a perfect companion animal.

Who do I contact for more Foster info for this sad furbaby? My # 693-391-7478
You need to contact them. The # is in the article: For more information about this animal, call Miami-Dade Animal Services at (305) 884-1101.
I’m not surprised that he’s depressed, he’s been to hell and back, now he’s abandoned in a scarey shelter, he needs somebody to show him he’s loved, safe and will find a forever home, he needs a family who will show him love. and he’s not all black he’s got white toes and white on his chest, so I wish shelters would stop being so negative about black dogs/cats, they’re just as beautiful as all the others.
I love black dogs & cats. I don’t understand why people don’t like black animals. They are beautiful. If I lived near this poor baby, I would adopt him.
nice looking dog.hope he finds a home soon.
This IS the KIND of beautiful one OF OUR WOUNDED WARRIER ORGANZATIONS NEEDS TO GET FOR A COMPANION DOG for one of OUR Returning Vets with PTSD who needs a COMPANION>>>> He is so young and I bet would be able to be trained easily!!!! Come ON OUT THERE GIVE HIM A CHANCE!!!!
I hate dog fighting wish they could find all these places and people doing this and shut them down its not fair to make these helpless dogs fight each other for money
I will be driving a leg on his transport Sunday afternoon. We transporters will shower him with love on his journey.
Where are you transporting him to? Is he going to be safe in a home? I am interested in saving him from being placed in another shelter?
He has been adopted and being transported to NW FL. Near the panhandle.
THAT IS FANTASTIC!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH! I cried all night looking at him and how afraid he must’ve been! I have 3 pits myself that are all rescues, one being a bait dog. I’ve had him for 2 years now and he has come such a LONG WAY. Thank you for the update!!!
Thank you so much for the reassuring update to this beautiful dog! I’m so glad he has been adopted.
Is he still available??? I called the shelter and they gave me a email address but the email keeps kicking back saying “mailbox is full”!
You are very welcome. I would post pics here but I don’t see a way to do it. It’s just terrible what these babies go through. Thank you for rescuing.
Thank you got helping too! It’s sad how many dogs are abused on a daily basis…
I adopted Tarzan, I can’t wait to spoil him. First thing i will teach him is how give mommy kisses!!
Very cool!!! Thank you for saving him!
so glad you adopted this beautiful dog!
I don’t know if my message went through last night. I’m so happy that you saved him, Robin! He looked SO sad and heartbroken! I know that it will be a huge shock to him when he gets loved on!!! I adopted a dog for Orange County Animal Services 2 years ago that was a bait dog. His name is Tank and he is the best song ever. He is still skeptical with people hugging on him. I had to come up with a way so he would let me hug him and let him know that it was okay. In the mornings when I wake up I say, “give momma morning hugs” and both of my other dogs would come over and start hugging on me and put their head on me. He saw what they were doing and that I want hurting them and now he comes over and lets me hug and kiss on him! When I got him, he didn’t know what treats or toys were and didn’t know how to drink water without his whole body jerking and sleeping on the bed…oh boy that was a HUGE treat! Anyways, I’m so glad there are so many of us that still care! Thank you again:)❤
God bless you for adopting an angel in need. I will always have you in my prayers and remember you when I think that humanity still has a chance.
I believe You earned a Star in the sky above us … You saved his life and he will repay you a thousand times over the years you have HIM!!! You gave him the second chance he so Needed!!!
Can you please post some pictures of Tarzan ?
You are awesome! All he needs is love and a chance at life
Please post a follow up and pics when he get home…please!
