Do 16-year-old dogs just get lost and wind up at open admission animal shelters? Something about Nico, the beautiful but frightened 16-year-old Cocker Spaniel, just begs everyone to reach out and make sure she is safe. After all, how many families come to shelters to adopt the seniors?

Click here for Nico’s Pet Harbor listing. #A3441992  “My name is Nico and I am described as a spayed female, white and buff 16-year-old Cocker Spaniel. I have been at the shelter since Oct 25, 2016.” For more information about this dog, call Los Angeles County Animal Control – Carson at (310) 523-9566. A Facebook page for Nico can be followed here.

No one knows if Nico’s family is looking for her, and no one knows how anyone could push a 16-year-old dog out of her home. Please share this dog’s plight with approved rescue organizations, family, friends and social media contacts. Sharing saves lives. For more information, contact:

  1. You would think a family would be looking for their 16 year old dog, but we see this every day, the dog gets old and nobody wants to deal with the issues. I hope her family is looking for her and I hope she finds her way home. If not I hope someone takes her in and gives her a loving home for the rest of her days.

  2. She looks very sweet. She doesn’t look neglected so maybe her family is looking for her (I hope!).

No, most people don’t go to shelters looking to adopt seniors which is too bad because seniors make wonderful pets. I’ve adopted 2 senior Yellow Labs (and a Yellow Lab who was a middle-aged adult at the time of adoption) so there ARE people who seek out seniors….there’s just not enough of us.
