UPDATE: Rescued by Leave No Paws Behind.  Please think about helping this organization … they make a difference in so many lives.

On July 30, Princess was surrendered to the Carson Care Center in California. Tragically her name has no correlation with her situation and possibly her fate. Princess the 16 year old Chi

“My former family who owned me for had to give me up because they thought I had gotten too old,” read the comment on the Saving Carson Dogs Facebook page about this frightened senior.

Click here for Princess’ Pet Harbor listing. Princess #IDA4978327. “My name is Princess and I am described as a spayed female, gold Chihuahua – Smooth Coated. The shelter thinks I am about 16 years old. I have been at the shelter since Jul 30, 2016.” For more information about this animal, call Los Angeles County Animal Control – Carson at (310) 523-9566.

Accompanying her short video, a shelter volunteer offered the heartbreaking words:

“PRINCESS was left at the shelter completely dazed and confused because at 16 years old they just felt she was too old now. She needs out now; this sweet soul deserves so much better than what she is now going through. Please share for her life, she is very special and a FOSTER or ADOPTER would save her.”

Information from the shelter indicates Princess is weak, may be blind and acts fearful. Anyone interested in helping will have to be very careful and be knowledgeable about handling her. She is wobbly when she walks and weighs 8.8 pounds. Please share her plight with approved rescue organizations, friends, family and social media contacts. Sharing saves lives. Her Facebook page can be followed here.

Carson Shelter is located at 216 Victoria Street, Gardena, California. Phone: 310.523.9566.

  1. The people that own little princess are scumbags you turn around cuz she’s too old make sure you would never get to do it again in your whole life

  2. “My former family who owned me had to give me up because they thought I had gotten too old,” REALLY? Too OLD? This is NOT an excuse acceptable for disposing of your pet. I hope and pray when these POS’s are deemed TOO OLD by their offspring that they are put away in a Nursing Home and forgotten because they ARE TOO OLD! Praying Princess finds a loving home to live out the rest of her “TOO OLD” days!

  3. How could anyone do this! My little girl passed away 2 months shy of her 16th birthday and I was right there with her. I would have given anything to spend more time with her. Please someone help this little girl to spend what time she has left in loving arms and not alone. I am in tears. How can anyone just dump their furry baby when they get old and you the most? Please someone help her.

  4. When I think of the pets I’ve had whom I wish had lived to be that old, this becomes even more infuriating. How does a pet become “too old”? How could someone leave their pet that they reach an age when they need you the most? Poor Princess deserves so much better from her humans than that. I hope someone helps her.

  5. if the family treated a 4 legged kid wearing fur like that.then should not have human kids at all.dogs are just 4 legged kids wearing fur and not our skin.my dog just die lastnigth at home in my arms.my dog came from a killing shelter in gerogie and then to rhodeisland a lady that runs a shelter for older and dogs with health issues .but my dog was small and she found out he needed alot of 1 on 1 with a person..the lady brougth him to me and i had him from age 9 until age 12 .on monday his body will be picked up at my home and creamtioned and send back to me before the end of this week. .so think before you put a older dog in a shelter.my dog was my little boy and i gave him all the love and care and clothes and specail carry bag and stairs to climb on to get on my bed with me.he was my little baby and he had the best time here in his old age .i was holding him close to me when he toke his last breath.i was patting him and telling him how much i love him and will miss him..so people need to treat they pets like human people in they lives are.

    • So sorry for your loss of your fur baby, Your boy was so lucky to have had you to love him. Treasure the happy memories, he lives on in your heart forever.
